I’ve done quite a few posts on free book previews recently, which indicates that they’re becoming an increasingly popular trend. The latest one I’ve come across is for Catching Fire, the much anticipated sequel to The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Though the release date is quickly approaching, for those of us who can’t wait one more minute to start reading, NPR has come to the rescue by putting up a “First Look” of the second chapter on its website.
Say what you will about making content available online, but free book previews seem like a pretty good idea to me. Not only do they give readers a glimpse of what’s to come, but they remind those who might have forgotten that the book is, indeed, coming out soon. While making the entire book available online might be a bit of a gamble, giving us a little taste (especially if the writing is good) can help create buzz and encourage more people to buy books.

Thanks Anna for the link! I’m so excited about CATCHING FIRE. I’ve done good so far and haven’t stumbled upon any spoilers. But from what I hear, it’s even better than HUNGER GAMES. I’ll have to touch base with you again after I read the book!
I’ve heard amazing things about it too – can’t wait!
Oh, I’m not going to look. I want to stay pure for this one until I get it in my hands!
That’s probably wise. I went ahead and read the preview chapter and now I’m even more impatient for the book to come out!
