Free “Fire” Preview and Deer!
Posted by annastan on August 21st, 2009. Filed under: Books, Random Fun.The trend of offering free previews of books online continues. This time it’s for a book that everyone has been anticipating for months. I’m talking, of course, about Kristin Cashore’s Fire, the followup to Graceling. The book has received starred reviews in every review journal you can imagine and all the buzz says that Fire is even better than the first book.
Thanks to Kristin’s website, I learned that the prologue and the first two chapters of the highly anticipated Fire are available online for free via Scribd. I don’t know if the excerpt will be enough to tide rabid fans over until October, but at least we can get a taste of what only a lucky few have been able to get their hands on thus far. Happy reading!
And since it’s Friday and everyone needs something cute to take them into the weekend, here are a couple of pictures of the deer that were hanging around my yard yesterday. Here’s the little one looking up at me:

And here you can just make out the grown-up one in the woods:

Ain’t life in the suburbs grand?

Oh I can’t wait to read Fire! I may have to break down and read those first few chapters. But then I’ll have to wait for a while to get the whole book!
Love those pictures too.

Hi Christina! Thanks for the comments. I broke down and read the first chapter of Fire online (the prologue). It was really interesting and made me even more excited for the book. And now back to waiting…

I hadn’t heard about the FIRE preview! I *think* I have an ARC winging its way to me as we speak. Hopefully before October
And the deer are cute, but man you have some serious pretty green grass!

Ha, our “pretty green grass” is actually mostly crab grass which would usually be dying right about now, but all the rain we’ve been getting in New England this summer has kept it going. I’m glad we can keep up the illusion of a nice lawn for a little while longer
