Where did September go? I’d been hoping to get a first draft of my WIP completed by the end of this month, but I still have a little ways to go. One thing I’ve been struggling with in the story is keeping all the logic straight. Since it involves people with supernatural abilities, I’ve been having to go back and fix things in earlier chapters because I’ve realized the rules of the world don’t quite make sense.
Some people go charging through the first draft without going back to fix things, but that doesn’t usually work for me. In this case, a lot of those logic gaps I’ve gone back and fixed have actually helped me decide where the story will go next. I’ve also realized, thanks to my writing group, that some of the characters I was still developing also have supernatural powers. Adding in this element helped move the story along, but it also meant I had to go back and change even more in the earlier chapters.
Even with all the back and forth, my word count is slowly getting up there. I’m not sure if the first draft will actually be 50,ooo words (it’s looking like it might be a bit shorter) but we’ll see once I actually get there.
30107 / 50000 words. 60% done!
How are you all doing with your WIPs? Any pesky problems you’re having to work through?

That’s great Anna. It seems like you’re making great progress. I’m like you, I can’t move on until I figure out a logical story problem. But once you figure it out, things fall into place!
Thanks Karen. It’s funny because after I wrote that post this morning, I wrote a bunch of new scenes. You were right about things falling into place!
Congrats on your progress!
Time is my peskiest problem, but I’m progressing which is great!
Thanks PJ! Yes, time is probably one of the peskiest problems, but I’m glad you’ve been able to make progress anyway. Good luck!
