Short Story Flashback

As I mentioned yesterday in my post on short stories, I used to write quite a few of them. In fact, in fifth grade I wrote an entire collection of stories  for my English class (and even illustrated them with my questionable drawing skills). They were strange and rather dark; I can’t imagine what my fifth grade teacher thought of them. I thought I’d share one with you called “The Cupcake Surprise.”

I guess I ate five too many cupcakes that Saturday because when I woke up Sunday I was one! It didn’t occur to me until my sister screamed when she saw me! I asked her what was the matter. “Look in the mirror!” she told me. So I did. There I was, a four foot tall cupcake standing in front of the mirror! Slowly I began to shrink.

My parents were out of town. Lucky them! Before they left they told us to go to the zoo on Sunday.

My sister stuck me in her pocket and off we went! We saw lots of animals and some of them stared at me as went by (I must admit I looked pretty tasty).

The trouble began when we went to the gorilla’s cage. (I suppose he was fed things like cupcakes when he did something right.) I heard him growl a little bit when I was standing so close but he couldn’t reach me. Unfortunately my “dear” sister didn’t notice and leaned forward to get a closer look at the cage. The gorilla reached out its furry, brown hand and grabbed me! He put me in his mouth and didn’t even bother to chew me, he just swallowed!

So  here I am writing this to myself in the stomach of a huge gorilla!

For the full effect you need to see the “amazing” picture I drew to go along with my story. Here it is:
