WIP Update (With Pictures!)

October has been rushing by, which means NaNoWriMo is just around the corner. I was hoping to have a draft of my WIP finished by then, but (surprise surprise) I’m stuck again. I still like the story, but I just can’t figure out where it’s going. Luckily, I’m meeting with my writing group on Friday; they always manage to find a way to get me moving again.

Instead of writing new pages, I’ve been busily reworking old ones. I spent the last couple of weeks addressing two issues in a manuscript: fleshing out the fantasy world and eliminating the passive voice. World-building takes time, so it makes sense that I’ve had to keep working on it to make the world clearer. Passive voice, however, is a pesky thing since I often don’t even realize I’m using it. Thankfully, I have a good friend who’s good at spotting passive writing; she got out her red pen and started slashing away. I finished polishing everything last night and sent it off to my agent.

That’s all there is to report on the writing front. Before I go, I want to end my post with a couple of pictures. I’ve been complaining about the weather recently (as we New Englanders tend to do) but over the past couple of days, I’ve actually been okay with it being fall since it’s given me this lovely view from my office window:

Oh, the passive voice … *groan*.
Agree that writing groups and writing buds are worth their weight in gold. Nice pictures! We actually had snow on Sunday (in metro-west Boston) but my view looks a bit like that too.

Oh yes, it snowed here too (south of Boston) and we groaned about it very loudly. But now that it’s sunny and feels like fall again, I’ve stopped my complaining for a bit. :-)

Wow, your view is gorgeous. With all the rain we’ve had here in Atlanta, our leaves haven’t even changed. Everything is still green. Hope to see some Fall colors soon.
