I’m happy to report that after being consistently behind in my NaNo word count all month long, yesterday I finally got (slightly) ahead!  For days I’d been stuck on the pivotal scene in the book where the main characters defeat the antagonist, but I couldn’t figure out how to make it work. Finally I simply wrote,  “Somehow they defeat the bad guy.”  Thanks to that little placeholder, I was able to forge ahead and write the last few chapters of the book and bring my word count back up to where it should be.

Later on today, I’ll go back to the parts I skipped and try to use my remaining 10,000 words to fill in the gaps. At this rate I feel confident I can reach my goal by the end of the month, if not sooner. After that, I’ll be putting this book away for at least a few weeks to work on the poor manuscript I abandoned for NaNo. Hopefully it’s still speaking to me.
