The Elms really is the perfect setting for some romantic writing. I think it could also make a good place for a ghost story. :-)

What a gorgeous place! I'd love to go there and spend the day and get inspired for some romantic writing. I just read your "new schedule" blog. I think cutting down is a wise thing to do.

Thanks Anne! I love going to places that inspire me. In fact, I'm going to try to do it more consistently. Happy writing!

Laura - You're absolutely right about characters. The more history they have, the more real they seem.

Lol Heather! I'm sorry that's your prominent memory of Newport! But it certainly makes for a good story. :-)

Valerie - I don't know if I'd want door to nowhere in my real house, but I've been thinking of putting them into a fictional house and confusing my poor characters. Heehee.

Anna--a while back, my husband and I went to check out the mansions. We climbed on some rocks at the water's edge below one of the estates(I don't remember which). I slipped on the rocks, fell in, and had to go to a fancy brunch with a wet butt. But we had a blast!

Great pictures. And green grass. Wow. I can't believe they were going to tear that house down. It seems beautiful.

I totally agree. Not just with settings but with characters too. I think its history specific to them that makes them come alive. Amazing how any experience can translate over to writing. :)
