The Company of Writers
Posted by annastan on March 17th, 2010. Filed under: Links, Random Fun, Resources.First off, agent Mary Kole just started an interesting series on her blog where she’s critiquing submission excerpts line-by-line. It’s a great glimpse into how agents evaluate manuscripts.
Now, I think I’ve mentioned before how lonely writing can be. Luckily, I have a writing date scheduled with my friend Alisa Libby today. Then we’re going to be meeting yet another writer friend for lunch. Having the chance to spend time with other writers is something I really value. Not only are you among people who understand your struggles, but they can give you advice and they can talk books with you all day long. The conversation would probably be boring to anyone else, but to us it’s heavenly.
And now in the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day (or, possibly, animal cruelty), I give you this poor little guy:

I love Mary Kole’s new series. And it gives insight into what she likes to. I love meeting with other writers, it’s so encouraging and inspiring. Enjoy your time!

What a crack up photo! hahaha thanks for the laugh! gotta love dressing up dogs!
Also thanks for the link! I hadn’t discovered this blog yet, so awesome! Have a great day! I’m looking forward to going to Barrie for a writers conference to do what you’re doing.

I forgot Mary was doing the series. I’m been busy reading writer blogs that I’m forgetting the agent blogs. I need more hours in a day!
Thanks for the reminder.

I’m SO jealous of your writing date, but I hope it’s productive and a lot of fun!
And thanks for the KidLit blog link. The blog is now appropriately filed in my Google Reader and I’m following @Kid_Lit on Twitter too so I won’t miss any updates.

You definitely delivered on the photo! Content-wise, I totally agree having “coworkers” is amazing. I can keep others on task, but I need someone to keep me on task.

Laura, the series does give nice insight into the kinds of things that work for Mary. Other agents might have different reactions, but most of them can probably agree on the basics.
Terry, I feel so bad for that poor dog. But he looks so hilarious! That’s great that you’ll be attending a conference – writer bonding time is SO important.
Stina, I feel like I’m drowning in blogs most of the time, but there are so many good ones to read! At some point I’ll have to draw the line – maybe when my eyeballs fall out.
Heather, I’m glad leprechaun dog brightened your day.

Valerie, isn’t he hilarious? It seems cruel to make him look so silly, but at the same time… (evil grin)
Thanks, John! I just got back and it was both fun and productive. I’m glad to help you fill up your Google Reader – do you think there’s a limit of how many blogs it can follow?
Jon, I love thinking of writing friends as “coworkers.” They help boost your spirits but also help you figure out your writing. I guess in that sense they’re the ideal kinds of coworkers, the ones that don’t heat up weird-smelling lunches in the microwave.

So cute! My dog would have it off and ripped to shreds in under a minute. He has the cutest winter jackets but I can’t get him to keep them on. Hope you and Alissa got lots of writing done!

I’m so jealous that you’re going to be in the company of writers. My critique group is taking this week off so I won’t get my fix.
I really do enjoy reading Mary Kole’s blog. Especially her novel beginnings contest she had recently.
I’ll definitely check out this new series as well.
