My Muse Has Arrived
Posted by annastan on June 14th, 2010. Filed under: Announcements, Random Fun.Recently, I mentioned that my husband and I were thinking of getting a dog, a “furry muse” if you will. We knew we wanted to adopt an adult dog since puppies are so much work (plus grown-up dogs have a harder time finding homes). Well we found “the one” not too long ago and she’s finally here! Her name is Emma and she’s a five-year-old labrador retriever mix. Everyone, meet Emma:
We just got her on Saturday so things have been a little dog-centric around here. But besides being a lot of fun, she’s the perfect writer’s companion; she loves to nap near you and come over every once in a while for a pat. I have a feeling dog companions are going to pop up in my stories even more frequently now. Want to see more pictures? Okay.
Here’s Emma wondering why on earth I’m crouched on the floor, sticking a camera in her face.
And here I am reading her mind. Predictably, her thoughts were: “Squirrel. Food. Walk. Existence. Food.” (She can get somewhat existential in between bites of kibble.) Okay, that’s it for now. I’ll try to restrain myself from posting endless pictures of her. I don’t know if having her around will increase my writing productivity, but she’s certainly making things more exciting.
Happy Monday!

Awww, she’s a beauty! I love dogs. My dog curls up next to me when I’m typing on the computer. They are full of love.
My dad has a lab mix and she’s such a great dog! Enjoy your new member of the family!

So. Cute. I love her smile in the last picture. What a sweetheart!
Dogs make great writing companions! Plus, they make you get out of the house sometimes, and I have never yet encountered a writing setback that couldn’t be at least partly comforted by a good dog-hug.
Enjoy your new muse! And may much good karma come your way for adopting, and adopting an older dog. I wish more folks thought that way.

Yaaaay, she’s here! Anna, she’s BEAUTIFUL!! Labs are great dogs. I can tell you love her to pieces already just by the look on your face. You won’t know what you did without her. Enjoy her!

Awwww!! She’s adorable!!! No wonder you brought her home. She looks like an absolute doll!

Thanks, Lisa! I keep telling her what a pretty girl she is – I think it’s starting to go to her head.
Kelly, they really are full of love, aren’t they? It’s the most comforting feeling to have her curled up next to me.
Deva, I’ve been really enjoying the “getting out of the house” aspect of having her. Of course, I might be singing a different tune come winter. I wish more people adopted adult dogs – they are so much easier than puppies and provide just as much love.
Thanks, Andrea! She’s been so much fun to have around so far, even though she was a bit confused the first day. She fits into our little family so well, it’s like she was meant to be here.
Valerie, she is just a total sweetheart. It definitely didn’t take us long to decide we wanted to adopt her!

Awww, such a pleasure to see her. She looks comfortable already, too. Enjoy your beautiful muse. I hope she finds her way into many of your stories–I know my dog has into mine!

Congrats on the new addition! She’s adorable – and with a face like that I’m sure she’ll be a fantastic muse!

She’s beautiful. Labs are such great dogs

Awhhhh, well hello Emma! I bet the thought “what a great home” is somewhere in there between the requisite “squirrel” and “food.”

Anne, I have no doubt Emma will pop up in my stories. She is quite a character!
Thanks, Laura. She’s been awesome so far.
Jamie, she is definitely pretty enough to be a muse! I tried to get a picture that showed off her lovely face, but I think she’s a little camera-shy.
Sherrie, I’ve never had a lab before, but so far I’m totally sold!
Aw, thanks Sarah. So far she seems to like it here – we’re doing our best to be good parents.

I do think you will have a dog in one of your novel’s future.

It’s so wonderful when an adult dog finds a forever home. Her expression shows she loves you already!

HUGE kudos to you for adopting an adult dog, so many people just go for the puppies when there are wonderful, loving grown up pooches that need homes.

No need to hold back on the pictures, even if you are not blogging about her. I love to see beautiful, happy dogs.

Thanks, Marissa! She is definitely a good companion.
Karen, one of my stories already has a trusty dog companion in it – I must have psychically known Emma would be in our lives soon!
Marcia, Emma just waved one of her paws at you.
Catherine and Angelique, I really wish more people would adopt adult dogs. They are SO loving and appreciative.
Vonna, you won’t have to twist my arm to put up more dog pictures!

Anna–that is a big dog! For some reason, I imagined your muse a bit smaller! Congrats–she’s beautiful!

We adopted our beagle when she was six — saved from a kill shelter in W. VA. She is such a big part of our family. Good luck with your new muse!

Ha, Heather I guess I’ve always been drawn to large muses. My last dog was an 80-pound greyhound. I love big, sweet dogs!
Judy, aren’t rescue dogs just the best? They are so thankful to find people to love them.
