First off, I wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who commented on my BIG news post and sent me emails and tweets and Facebook messages. I was just overwhelmed by all the congratulations and kind words – you guys are awesome! What better way to keep the party going than to give away some books?

The Prizes:

Since my debut novel, MY UN-FAIRY TALE LIFE, is a funny middle grade story, I’ve decided to give away two of the most hilarious MG books I’ve ever read.

THE TRUE MEANING OF SMEKDAY by Adam Rex

True Meaning of Smekday

and WHALES ON STILTS by MT Anderson

Whales on Stilts

I will be choosing TWO winners. Each winner will have the choice of receiving both books in paperback or one of the two books in hardcover.

To Enter:

- Comment on this post and tell me about a hilarious book you’ve read recently. (1 entry)

-Post a link to this contest (on your blog, Twitter, Facebook, etc.) and leave a separate comment with the URL. If you post in multiple locations, please leave a separate comment for each URL. (1 entry per link)

***Basically, whenever you do anything that would give you another entry, leave me a separate comment to let me know about it.***

Please note:

The contest ends on July 23rd at midnight EST. Make sure to check back to see if you’re a winner; you’ll have 30 days to collect your prize or some lucky soul will snatch it up instead!

Ooh, I want Whales on Stilts! Already have The True Meaning of Smekday-Adam Rex is a master. Recent funny book: The Riot Brothers by Mary Amato (MG series)

  2. Heather Kelly

Okay, I’m totally winning this. Woo-hoo! I’ll be back to make it official later.

  3. Sarah Mullen Gilbert

I finally discovered Lisa Yee’s Stanford Wong Flunks Big Time, and the frozen fishsticks line is my new all-time favorite.

    Congrats again, Anna!

  4. Shoshana

Not a super-recent read, but I was just reminded when I saw it on my Goodreads page: The Birthday Ball, by Lois Lowry, was definitely and unsurprisingly hilarious.

  5. kris

A funny book I’ve read lately…hmm. I’d have to say “How to Train Your Dragon” by Cressida Cowell. Not at all like the movie, but very funny!

I can’t resist an opportunity to share book-love. I’ll have to say the funniest book I’ve read lately is Cosmic by Frank Cottrell Boyce.

  9. Jonathon Arntson

Although YA, SWIM THE FLY is the funniest book I have ever read. I am pretty sure I am already a follower :P

  10. Brian Yansky

I just wanted to comment on your big news. I’m so happy for you. Congratulations!!!!

  11. Angelique

Tempest Rising by Nicole Peeler was one of the funniest books I have EVER read. The main character is a total dork…and I love characters I can relate to lol =)

  12. Angelique

    And I am a follower =)

  13. Sherrie Petersen

Okay, this will sound odd, especially since I’ve always avoided this series, but the book that made me laugh out loud recently was Junie B., First Grader, Dumb Bunny. My 7yo daughter read it to me and used all these funny voices so I know a lot of it had to do with the reader. But really, those books have great humor in them. I’m already a follower :)

  14. Anne M Leone

Ohhh, two books that have been on my TBR list for ages!

Post 1: Joey Pigza Swallows the Key by Jack Gantos. Hysterical yet quite real and sad, too.

Post 3: Just RT your tweet about the contest. I know it’s possible, but sorry, not sure how to give the link for that.

    Thanks, Anna!

  17. kris

I retweeted, Anna, this evening! Yeah!

  18. Yat Yee

I’ve been meaning to read both these books. The funniest book I’ve read recently is Lamb by Christopher Moore but it is most definitely NOT for an MG audience. My seven year old and I are reading How to Train Your Dragon together, and he laughs out loud.

  19. Yat Yee

    #2 I am now a follower.

I love Jasper FForde’s books as do my kids and the latest I read was The Fourth Bear. His writing is hilarious.

Thanks for the giveaway and for opening it up to worldwide entries.

    Much appreciated.

Awesome contest, Anna. I adore THE TRUE MEANING OF SMEK DAY, though I don’t have a copy of my own.

One of the funniest books I read with my son was Eoin Colfer’s THE LEGEND OF SPUD MURPHY. What a completely subversive tactic to share the joy of reading with kids, boys in particular. Loved it!

    Thanks for sharing this!

  38. Christina Klizen

I’m a follower and I’d love to win. Haven’t read either of those books. One of my favorite funny MG books – The Wednesday Wars:)

  39. Trish

So, so happy for you, Anna! Well, since my funny MG book hasn’t sold yet, I would say Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Makes me think of Calvin and Hobbes.

  40. Erin

Hmm…I’ve actually been reading the most silly/depressing books lately. I did happen to reread Catherine Called Birdy though and found it to be a pretty charming read.

So looking forward to reading your new book when it comes out! Congratulations!!

  41. Medeia Sharif

Hi, Anna. Congrats on your book deal!!!

Linked you on today’s blog. Good luck with your contest!

  43. Mary Morra

OK It’s a little old school, but I’ve always loved any books by Beverly Cleary. Can’t remember most of the titles, but “Ramona and Beezus” comes to mind. I used to read these books to and with my kids. loved them all- Cleary has a way of being funny, heartwarming and real.

  44. Kathy

    Great news about your book!

One of the funnier books I’ve read recently is Eats, Shoots and Leaves — a book about punctuation! I kept giggling over it, and my husband asked what was so funny. How could I explain that the author relayed hysterical incidents about poor use of punctuation marks?

  45. Clara Gillow Clark

    Congratulations, Anna!

#2 One of the funniest scenes you’ll ever read in a children’s book is in Hilary McKay’s DOG FRIDAY. You’ll laugh until you cry. Also, any of her The Exiles series or the Casson family series–Saffy’s Angel et al–will keep you in stitches.
    I’ve re-tweeted your link!

  46. angela ackerman

I am so happy for you!!

I recently read the Clementine series–great CB Humor. Another Fave CB of mine is Dear Dumb Diary. I love humor in books–it takes a unique skill to pull it off. I have heard so much good about Whales on Stilts and can wait to read that one.

  47. Paul

    Congrats Anna!!!

  48. Cindy

Congratulations to you for your wonderful news. I’d love to win Smekday!

The Moxy Maxwell series by Peggy Gifford are my favorite funny CB/MG books.
