What I’ve Been Reading

After finishing the second book in George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series (what a spicy meatball!) I was in desperate need of some lighter fantasy. Here’s what I’ve been reading:

Keeping the Castle by Patrice Kindl

This was such a fun read, full of personality and quirky humor. It was exactly the change of pace I needed.

Princess of Glass by Jessica Day George

This is a sequel to Princess of the Midnight Ball which is a retelling of “The Twelve Dancing Princesses.” What I loved about this follow-up is that it not only continued the original story but it also had a unique take on the Cinderella tale.

Magic Under Stone by Jaclyn Dolamore

I loved the first book in this series (Magic Under Glass) and the sequel did not disappoint. What I enjoy most is the rich atmosphere Jaclyn is able to create in her books.

What have you been reading?

I haven’t heard of any of these. Thanks for the suggestions. I’m reading The Farm by Emily McKay.

These titles are all new to me. Thanks for highlighting them.
I just finished re-reading a couple of classics – Ethan Frome and North and South. Next up I’m going to start All the Broken Pieces, a novel in verse.

I like when less known/exposed titles are brought out. Thanks, Anna.

Ah, Book Twin, these are some good suggestions. I really want to read the Song of Ice and Fire series because my co-workers rave about it — plus, just the fact that he can keep up with ALL those characters and plot-lines is AMAZING.

I read Hattie Big Sky by Kirby Larson and Sugar on Snow by Kate Messner. Both very good and recommended!

Now I’m head down trying to finish a draft before Wednesday so no reading for me at the moment. Then we have visitors till the end of the month so not sure if I will get a chance to read anything. But then the mere thought of not reading a book again until *September* is horrifying LOL so I’m sure I’ll sneak something in, even if it’s late when I should be sleeping!
