Going from Revising to Rewriting

You know when you send your manuscript to a beta reader, hoping to get small comments back? And instead, you get feedback that makes you realize you still have a long way to go? Yup. That’s what happened to me this week.

I’m grateful to have such honest beta readers who point out when things aren’t working, but it means I have to really dig in to my WIP and do more work than I was planning on. But you know what? If the result is a better book then I’m willing to do it–even if I whine a little along the way.

So off I go, back into the revision cave. Please send chocolate. (Or some chocolate Lab puppies.) (I promise not to eat them.)

    I have experienced this very thing. I hate/love those crits. It’s wonderful to have insightful, understanding crit partners who want to make the story as great as it can be. What a gift during these holiday times!!

    Good luck!! I know you can do it. I haven’t had to completely re-write a manuscript but I’ve had to re-write big sections. It’s hard but it’ll be worth it in the end. :)

    Nothing like discovering a manuscript needs work, but it’s good to have beta readers/critique partners who help us find that out!

    Wish I could send you some of the chocolate I’ve been receiving–we’re just inundated with it this year for some reason. :D

    Love the puppies. {}

    You can do it Book Twin! :) You’ll make that book sparkle when you revise.

    It looks from the picture like one’s already got a head start with the eating. ;-)

    Good luck!!!

    I have had this happen many times. But the great thing is each rewrite it gets better and it is all worth it for the moment when those betas say, “I love it!”

    Hope you hear those words soon.

    Ah, but these are *the best* sort of Beta-readers. Especially if the feedback gives you a mega-”ah-ha!” moment.
    Chocolate!

    Wow. We’re so moving on the same track right now. I was just about to start diving into my revisions tomorrow, too. *sigh* It is worth it, but so hard to hear that honest truth! Good luck.

    Good luck revising! Beta readers are the BEST.

    And oh my gawwwd those puppies!! I’ve got a chocolate lab – I remember when she was a cute little blob like that.
